Permissions Issue with SQL Reporting Services on Vista

Hi all

Recently, I deployed SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services on my laptop which was running Windows Vista. I was running the Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2005.

After deploying the service pack, I ran the User Provisioning Tool and granted access to the required user with Administrative rights. However, when I tried to browse through the report server URL, I received the following error.

Also, when I tried to access the Reports Manager, I got a blank window as shown below.

After doing some search on newsgroups and community forums, I found out the reason as the permission issue on Reporting Services, which can be resolved using the following steps.

Right click on SQL Server Management Studio and choose the option “Run As Administrator”.

In the SQL Server Login screen, choose the Server Type as Reporting Services and login to the appropriate SQL Server.

Once logged in, right click on the Home directory and click on Properties, as shown below.

In the folder Properties window, click on the Add Group or User button.

In the Add Group or User window, type the username for whom you want to define permissions in Reporting Services.

After entering the user ID click OK to close the window. Then define the appropriate permissions for the specific user as shown below.

Once the permissions are defined for the specific user, you would be able to get over the Reporting Services permissions issue for the specific user. Now when I tried to access the Report Server and the Report Manager, I was able to access it successfully.
