Dynamics GP 10/2010 : Login very slow after installing SP5

Hi there, Many experienced a torturous delay when login to GP after installing SP5 of GP10 with Analytical Accounting module. The workaround by Microsoft for this issue till the hotfix is launched is given below. ******************************** A Microsoft SQL Server job can be created to remove the records from the SY07110 table for the Dynamics Online Services product as a workaround until the resolution is released. The Microsoft SQL Server job can be scheduled to run every morning and/or at other times during the day to remove the records 1

Slow Login Performance for GP 10.0 SP5 and GP 2010 SP1

If you have updated to GP 10.0 SP 5 or GP 2010 SP1 you might already notice the slow performance during login, this is mainly related to the newly added “Dynamics Online Services” dictionary that adds records in the menu table with removing old ones as detailed in this article for David Musgrave and this article for Vaidy Mohan , the temporary solution for this is deleting the records in the menu table that’s related to this dictionary. To avoid the manual deletion of the records in this table, you will need to create an SQL job that automatically deletes unwanted records from this table, follow steps below to start: 1. Open SQL Server, navigate to SQL Server Agent > > Jobs, right click and select “New Job”: 2

Add-In Initialization Error when launching Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 – Follow up

If you read my previous article on some table open operation issues I was faced with at a client, you know by now that it’s important to have the proper writer permissions on the local %temp% folder.

Add-In Initialization Error when launching Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010

Lately, many users have reported getting the error depicted below after launching Microsoft Dynamics GP 10 with Service Pack 5 or Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 with Service Pack 1: Add-In Initialization Error The error references the Microsoft.Dynamics.GP.OnlineServices.dll assembly file as the root cause of the problem. This assembly was shipped with Microsoft Dynamics GP 10 SP5 and is a part of the Dynamics Online Services application. The error typically indicates that the add-in assembly is loaded, however, it most likely indicates that the Dexterity portion of the application, dictionary DO6499.dic , isn’t loaded in the path found in the DYNAMICS.SET file — which should have also generated a dictionary load error prior to receiving the above message — or isn’t loaded at all.

Login Performance Issue for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 SP5 and GP 2010 SP1

David Meego - Click for blog homepageIt has been brought to my notice that we have another issue with a dictionary adding records to the syMenuMstr (SY07110) table each time a user logs into Microsoft Dynamics GP.  This issue is caused by the new Dynamics Online Services dictionary which was installed as part of Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Service Pack 5 and Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 Service Pack 1.  This is similar to the Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Service Pack 5 Login Performance issue found previously.

I started researching this issue after reading Vaidy Mohan’s blog post, Online Services for Dynamics GP – Triggers GP “Add Command” Hanging Indefinitely. The fact that he mentions that thousands of records in the SY07110 table were related to a single dictionary, made me test to see if the number of records was increasing each login.

Using the query below, I checked the number of records.  I then logged in to Microsoft Dynamics GP, and checked the number of records again.  It had increased by one.  This means that the code is incorrectly adding a single menu record, even if it already exists in the table. The query is:

select COUNT(*) from DYNAMICS.dbo.SY07110 where CmdParentDictID = 6499

Over time, the number of records in SY07110 table will become very large.  The syMenuMstr table is used during login by the process which hides the menu entries that a user does not have security access to. The table is also used to create the menu tree when adding menu commands to toolbars or shortcuts.  Performance during login and when selecting menu commands can be affected by this issue.

The issue has been logged with Development as Collaboration Request 8297 and Problem Report 60427.  If this issue is effecting you, please log a support case to get your details registered against the problem report.

To resolve the issue for now it is recommended to create a daily SQL Server Job with the following code to remove the menu entry records.  The valid menu entry will be recreated on the next login.

delete from DYNAMICS.dbo.SY07110 where CmdParentDictID = 6499

We are working to get this fixed as soon as possible in an upcoming compliance release or service pack.

Online Services for Dynamics GP – Triggers GP "Add Command" Hanging Indefinitely

I am not sure whether the issue that I am going to explain here has got any relevance to the actual issue that I faced recently. I leave it to readers and consultants out there to second my finding had they faced this before.

Issue: When I tried adding a GP Window to my GP Home Page Quick Links, the Add Command window hung indefinitely, forcing me to kill GP and launch it back.

Troubleshooting: I first ran the Dex Script Log and it was unfortunately inaccessible as GP had to be killed eventually and this file got stuck in between. I then ran SQL Profiler exactly at the time of clicking “Add Microsoft Dynamics GP Window” which triggers “Add Command” window to be opened.

Firstly, the process was still active and there was one table which got hit in a loop, I sense that an indefinite loop. The Physical Name of that table is SY07110. The Technical Name is syMenuMstr.

Secondly, this indefinitely looped process was hitting only one product ID in that table, which is 6499. This 6499 denotes the product Dynamics Online Services.

Thirdly, when I queried this table from SSMS, it had 5700+ records out of which 3750+ records where recorded only for Command Dictionary ID (CmdDictID) 6499, which is Dynamics Online Services.

I was totally clueless why this must had got so many records on this Menu Master table. I was also totally clueless what needs to be done with this product being active on my GP environment.

Solution (Temporary): I removed the Dynamics Online Services product (using Add/Remove Features) and this issue never occurred later.

I checked KB and I checked blogs & forums to no avail. Guess I was the first one to face this. Uninstalling the product Dynamics Online Services, is not a permanent solution, and it does not affect any other process than the Quick Links one. But this seems to be either a bug or something which went wrong in my environment.

Have to do some more analysis on this to get a fix.

VAIDY
