Canadian Payroll mid-year tax update

The mid year tax update is posted for GP10, and coming soon for GP2010. Changes are only (so far) for Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan. New this time around: this is only the Canadian changes. At the end of June there will be a hotfix which will contain US tax changes and other bug fixes. You only have to install the tax update if you are in the jurisdictions involved - the hot fix in June will be cumulative and will contain the tax updates PLUS the regular bug fixes that normally would be in one service pack Continue reading

Who’s editing this transaction?

Dynamics GP manages transactions locking by saving the “ID” of the transaction’s being edited in the SQL (SY00800, SQL00801 and DEX_LOCK in tempdb) to avoid any deadlocks in the database. However, when a user tries to open one of the locked transactions, it will be notified that the transaction is currently locked by another user: Michael D Johnson posted a solution for this. Now, you can download the free Record Lock Tracing add-on for Dynamics GP (Tested on v10 and GP2010) that will replace this generic message with a message that includes the specific user that has the record locked: Well done Michael! Regards, -- Mohammad R Continue reading

If you have been in the channel as an ISV, partner, or customer since the days of the former Great Plains Software, you probably still remember that in the past testing of Microsoft Dynamics GP included exhaustive testing of a number of printers for compatibility. In fact, leading up to the release of version 10.0, it was not uncommon to see the now infamous Printer Compatibility List, which would outline an extensive list of printers tested for all sort of "maneuvers" including large print jobs, paper handling, character blurriness, and so on. Microsoft SQL Server DSN Configuration

As I wrapped up fellow MVP Victoria Yudin 's book just a week aback and prepared to write a review , I was reminded of the importance of properly configuring your Microsoft Dynamics GP DSN connection -- the artifact that allows the client software to read and write data to your company databases and the system database -- something the Microsoft Dynamics GP installation gracefully setup automatically nowadays for you. So, if this is the case, why is it that so many people still have issues with DSN connections and the Microsoft Dynamics GP client not "seeing" the server, I wondered Continue reading
