#CONV13 and #MSDYNGP on Twitter

I have always wondered where twitter fit into the scheme of things. LinkedIn is great for professional contacts, Facebook is pretty good for friends and family. Blogs are excellent for sharing information in an informal way or for sharing experiences.

Twitter was always the awkward cousin in my world, asking for attention (and getting attention from a lot of people). It never really made sense to me – why would you want to limit your post to 140 characters.

Convergence 2013 changed that for me – we were sharing useful information real time – announcements, new sessions, feedback. #conv13 and #msdyngp had thousands of tweets – and were “trending” on twitter. It was information just about adequate for twitter.

Errol Schoenfish, Pam Misialek, and Jay Manley from Microsoft were tweeting before and after sessions. So were MVPs Mariano GomezLeslie Vail, Mark Polino, Belinda Allen, Frank Hamelly and Charles Allen. David Musgrave  was tweeting all the way from Perth in the middle of the night. jon_rivers was one of the top influencers like last year.

MSDynamicsWorld.com, Beat Bucher, palmawurzel, Bob McAdam were the other twitter experts I was following who were keeping everybody posted. I highly recommend following all of them above – and maybe this twitter thing will start making more sense like it did to me finally!

Some of the guys above have interesting lists – which you might want to review.

Business Portal for GP 2013 to Ship in Mar

Just a quick update for people planning upgrades to 2013 –

Business Portal is not available for GP 2013.  It is planned to ship in March.
If a customer moves to Perpetual and they own Business Portal, they will not be able to upgrade until March.

Cool Office Tip for Taking Screenshots

I am a big fan of SnagIT – for taking screenshots for documentation. It easily saves me hours every week, and maintains a history.

Earlier today while onsite at a customer, and naturally not everybody in the world wants to buy a screenshot capturing tool. I was using Snipping Tool that comes in with Windows. Its pretty nifty, but takes a couple of extra steps when compared to SnagIT – take a screenshot, copy it ,and then paste it to Word.

I was cribbing about how I was wasting 2 seconds every minute, and a co-worker here showed me the cool “Insert Screenshot” feature in Microsoft Word 2010. Apparently you can go into Insert > Screenshot and it shows you all open windows and you can quickly insert screenshots into Work or an Outlook Email! Very cool!

Microsoft Dynamics GP team Listens

I’d love to sing praises of Microsoft here, but I’d recommend you check out the post here – Partners – We heard you. This was the single biggest complaint in the GP 2013 pricing. Great for Microsoft. My thought was that most people would probably just move to SmartConnect.

However, now people will have the ability to choose the tool based on their needs.

Importing/Exporting a Dynamics GP Transaction to Excel

In the last couple of months, I have come across two excellent add-on applications for Dynamics GP that work very well with Excel. I reviewed Copy Paste JEs from Excel to Dynamics GP recently. Mohammad R. Daoud and his team have made many updates, so worth checking out Dynamics GP Excel Paste

Another application worth checking out is by TitaniumGP. I like the usability of this application, if you try and paste something – they check if you don’t have the write template, and offer to export the correct template. Also the ability to immediately export any transaction to excel from any window – is very cool.

In addition – they a small search window – a la GPWindow.com – only this lets you launch GP windows from within GP. This is something I have had on my to-do list for a few years now, so I am happy somebody has gone ahead an done this.
